Freshwater pearls are created inside bivalve mollusks cultivated in lakes and rivers with clear, monitored water. The process takes 2 to 5 years: harvesting occurs only when the pearl has reached its natural maturity, an artisanal act that no machine can replace.

Once harvested, the pearls are analyzed in the laboratory based on five parameters: luster, surface, shape, color, and size.
Our gemologists specifically study the depth of the nacre layer and the way it reflects light.
It is this quality that makes each pearl unique.

Out of every hundred pearls analyzed, only a small fraction meets our standards. The pearls are then matched by hand—for color, size, and luster—because every Perlaviva piece must be perfectly harmonious.
Some are chosen for their flawless roundness, others for an irregular shape that makes them one-of-a-kind.
